Keloids are also called Cheloids and hypertrophic scars. They are scars that are caused after an injury when the skin overreacts to the injury. It looks like a skin growth but in nature it is actually a scar. In fact, there is no cure available for keloids, but some treatments can reduce the effects of the scar.
The keloids look like over grown skin that is raised and the scars often appear to white or pinkish in color. They will also be shiny and smooth in texture. It is an itchy and sometimes painful scar to have, and it is also highly sensitive to touch. Almost everybody is prone to get keloids when they have an injury. Many doctors do not know what exactly causes them and why the skin reacts in such a way. However, it is always an aftermath of an injury. The keloids can develop on the skin at anytime during the healing of the injury. When the skin grows back, it may just appear to be a scar. The best treatment for a keloid is to control it in its early stages. Usually it starts out as a small bump.
Even vaccinations can end up as keloids or a small bump that was a skin infection can end up as a keloid. A doctor identifies a keloid based on its appearance. Sometimes, the doctor may also order a bioscopy to rule out the possibility of it being cancerous. However, for many people keloids are basically harmless and do not cause any pain.More Articles :
