What Causes Iritis ?

Iritis is a condition in which the iris, the colored portion in the eye gets inflamed. It is chronic in nature and can be a resultant of bacterial, viral or autoimmune disorders or due to a traumatic eye injury.

Leaving iritis untreated creates problems in vision and other eye disorders like cataract and can lead up to blindness. In many cases, iritis occurs due to an infection or a disease affecting other part in the body. Diseases such as tuberculosis, arthritis or syphilis may result into iritis. An infection affecting the tonsils, teeth, kidney, gallbladder or sinus can also cause iritis. Sometimes, an ulcer can develop in the eye from an injury. Also, the presence of a foreign material, stuck to the cornea can cause iritis.

However, it is not exactly known as to What Causes Iritis ?. The doctors can only know what factors stirred in the chronic condition of iritis. The condition grows at a rapid pace within a few days or even hours. The affected person experiences pain in his eye and in the brow area becomes extra sensitive against light and has a blurred vision. It makes the area around the iris and the sclera red. Some can also dots going along their field of vision. The pupil is misshaped and becomes smaller in comparison to the unaffected eye.

Since iritis can also be a resultant of other disorders, the patient will require going through a complete checkup which includes getting an X-ray for chest, lower back and going tests for the detection of tuberculosis etc. to get an accurate diagnosis for a suitable treatment.
