Most people think of heart disease as a heart attack, cardiac arrest or stroke. However, there are several kinds of heart diseases under this one umbrella.
Some are hereditary, while some are caused due to our own physical conditions. Most of the heart diseases, including some of the congenital ones, are treatable. However, proper disease management and discipline is crucial for effective treatment. The heart has several sections like the heart muscles, valves and arteries. There might be a problem related to any of these. Depending on which part of the heart is affected, the disease is categorized.
Coronary heart disease is one of the most common types to occur in people, and also among all the heart diseases, it is the biggest killer of people. This is caused when the heart is not receiving enough blood and oxygen to function properly. Angina and heart attack are also common symptoms of this disease.
Endocarditis is a disease that affects the valves of the heart or the endocardium membrane. The disease can be caused due to a bacterial infection. It can also be caused due to a surgery-related infection.
High blood pressure is also a very common condition. It is more likely found in people who are obese or overweight and those who tend to lead a sedentary lifestyle. This condition is caused due to the pressure on artery walls and it causes the heart to beat harder and faster. It is highly likely to cause a stroke.
Congestive heart failure is caused when the heart is not beating properly. It could be due to a weak heart that cannot control the flow of blood.
