Facts About Heart Disease And Children

Many people are inclined to think that heart disease is a condition that occurs only in adults. However, it is a common condition for children.

There are three reasons why it might occur in children. One is it might be present at birth; second, it may be a hereditary disorder; and lastly, it can be caused due to obesity.Children suffer from heart failures because they are too fat. In the United States the latter reason is more common. Out of every three deaths among children, two are due to heart disease, and around 90 percent of the time the disease is due to obesity.

Coronary heart disease is the number one killer in the United States, and if the parents suffer from it, their children are twice as likely to get it. Most of times, the disease is genetically passed on. So, parents should put in extra effort to make sure that children eat healthy and lead an active life. Most kids today lead a sedentary lifestyle playing video games or sitting and watching television. Children who play outdoors more are the ones who are less likely to become fat. Cholesterol is a growing problem among kids also. It not only causes heart diseases but also interferes with the child's ability to perform in school. It increases their appetite, and at the same time causes lack of energy in their body.

If the parents are obese, then they should put in extra effort to ensure that their child’s diet and lifestyle is monitored. They should even enroll the child in sports.
