Signs Of Primary Pulmonary Hypertension
The increase in the blood pressure in arteries and veins present in heart and lungs is termed as pulmonary hypertension. The increased pressure in the right side of the heart connected to the lungs experiences strain due to the increased blood pressure within the blood vessels. Due to this, the right side of the heart enlarges and deteriorates, eventually failing to function properly. This results in an enfeebled body and higher chances of death.
Pulmonary hypertension can be differentiated in to several categories:
- PAH (Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension) – This one concerns the blood vessels that are present in the lungs. The blood that is been carried from the heart to lungs for fetching oxygen is affected by this form of pulmonary hypertension. It is again categorized into 2 types;
- PPH (Primary Pulmonary Hypertension) – This can happen for no specific reason but in some cases it is found to be hereditary. It is commonly seen in young adults and the ratio of occurrence is more in women than men.
- The secondary pulmonary hypertension is seen in patients who are exposed to diet drugs or illegal drugs like cocaine etc. The other reasons could be cardio vascular disease, HIV, other heart diseases and liver diseases.
- PVH (Pulmonary Venous Hypertension) – This form can be caused by the effects of left heart side diseases such as mitral valve or heart failure. This is not severe, but can increase blood pressure in the pulmonary arteries.
- The diseases causing respiratory problems such as asthma, emphysema, interstitial lung disease and sleep apnea can be related to pulmonary hypertension.
- Blood clots formed due to any reason in the blood vessels present in lungs.
- Pulmonary hypertension can be caused due to the disorders in blood vessels present in the lungs such as parasite or due to inflammation.
Ignorance to these signs of pulmonary hypertension can damage severely to the body and can be fatal for one’s life.
