Exercise With Pulmonary Hypertension

The pulmonary hypertension is termed as the increase in blood pressure in the pulmonary capillaries, pulmonary veins and pulmonary arteries. The pressure made by blood is always high in case of hypertension or high BP (Blood Pressure).

Elevated blood pressure or pulmonary hypertension showcases symptoms like fatigue, fainting or dizziness, anxiety, apnea and cough. Hemoptysis, blood in coughing, angina pectoris, edema (inflammation of feet and ankles in leg) can be other symptoms of pulmonary hypertension. These symptoms can become diseases and get worse by physical or mental exertion that can lead to heart failure.

The effects of pulmonary hypertension can be reduced by some exercises that offer physical and psychological strength to fight against several diseases caused by hypertension. Intense exercises or excess of exercises can develop intense pressure on the pulmonary arteries resulting in failure of right heart. Patients should exercise moderately under professional supervision with medicines to avoid risks caused by pulmonary hypertension. Physicians normally recommend moderate exercises to their patients under professional supervision.

Pulmonary hypertension can be treated with medicines, but after appropriate medical treatments too, many patients still suffer from the symptoms. Medicines reduce disorders caused by pulmonary hypertension, but affect the physical abilities that results in nervousness and depression. Physical exercises help patients to breathe in good amount of oxygen that reduces the workload on heart, increases patient’s immunity against diseases and infections, improves the respiratory system making the patients physically and mentally strong.

There are no such exercises available or meant especially for pulmonary hypertension. Jogging, cycling or walking for half an hour everyday keeps the patients fit and healthy. Gymnasiums and fitness centers offers physical activities like cardiovascular exercises or aerobics that help patients to reduce the effects and also keep away from such pulmonary diseases. An Indian style of exercise called as Yoga also aids in keeping the person fit.
