Hives is a skin infection that is caused due to various reasons. One of the reasons could be anxiety. Hives can cause itchy, red bumpy patches on the skin. Hives appear and spread quickly on the body from one area to another; and they can disappear rapidly or last for a long time on the body. However, they also do reappear on the body several times. Hives are mere allergic reactions and are considered harmless. They do disappear even without any treatment. It is very rare that hives cause problems with breathing and throat and lead to life threatening conditions.
The medical community finally believes that the mind and body are inter related and the problems of the mind can cause the symptoms in the body. Stress causes an attack called homeostasis. When under stress, the adrenalin gland causes a reaction called “fight or flight” syndrome where the body experiences an adrenaline rush or a surge of hormones, which cause a reaction in the body. When the body has an excess of hormones, it does not know how to react. As a result hives and other skin reactions can result. Stress can cause several physical changes. Stress can lead to a person being paradoxically ill. It also weakens the immune system by constantly triggering it.
Stress can be gradated into various levels. Chronic stress and anxiety can lead to various other problems like sleeplessness, panic attacks, headaches and backaches. Stress related to hives can cause the following symptoms.
When a person has hives, they are prescribed antihistamines. A person who is under stress will fight the antihistamine, which causes sleepiness, to stay awake.
In case of hives, the person tries to stay awake because of the unpleasant itchiness, as it can produce bad results.
Lying down on the bed, and twitching and dealing with itchiness is a classic symptom of hives.
In the day time, the sleepiness is more and the nights get worse. When you are faced with a situation where you have to stay awake during the day time and fall asleep in the night, is bad. This happens when you are already taking sedatives.
Frustration builds in a person when they cannot find the right clothes to wear that wouldn’t bother the hives. Hives are unattractive features on the skin, and nobody wants to expose them. So they wear fully covered clothes.
Some times the symptoms brought on by anxiety and stress can result in depression and suicidal tendencies in the person, as the person is unable to cope with the symptoms or finds them too overwhelming.
