Herpes is caused by a virus called HSV. This virus actually resides at the nerve endings in the central nervous system. It can be triggered due to stress and also some types of foods. It comes to the surface of the skin and starts replicating it. However, for this process to take place another person who has herpes should have come in contact with you sexually or very close to you.
There are different kinds of herpes like oral herpes, ocular herpes and genital herpes. Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease and is also one of the most common types of herpes to infect people. Genital herpes has to be treated with proper medications. It causes several symptoms that can lead to complications if left untreated. For instance, it causes urinary tract infection and if it is left untreated, it can even affect the central nervous system.
One of the common repercussions of non treatment of genital herpes is it can lead to AIDS. Herpes causes low immunity in the person who is infected and HIV virus mainly attacks people with low levels of immunity. Genital herpes also causes lesions in the skin which is another area from where the HIV virus can enter the body.
Even ocular herpes and oral herpes have to be treated promptly or else they will cause more problems like loss of vision or spreading into the respiratory tract. The nasal tract can also get infected and cause further problems for you. It also gets very complicated if treatment is delayed.
