There are several different types of herpes. One of them is herpes of the eye. It is a very painful infection and disease caused by the type 1 herpes simplex virus. It is also called ocular herpes, and it is identified by the recurring eye infection. The cornea is inflamed and there is a general redness in the eye. The eye is also under stress and hurts a lot.
This type of herpes gets transmitted when the infected person comes in close contact with an uninfected person. Eye herpes is quite a common condition. Herpes keratitis is one of the most prevalent types of herpes and starts mainly in the cornea. This type of herpes, however, does not scar the eyes and heals with causing damage to the vision.
Another type of herpes is the stromal keratitis which goes deeper into the layers of the tissues in the eye. This is a more severe condition of herpes, and it can lead top permanent scarring and also blindness of the eye. This type of herpes also occurs rarely. It can be a common cause for blindness that occurs late in life in many people.
The last type of herpes is the iridocyclitis which is a very serious eye infection and that affects the iris. The entire eye becomes inflamed as a result and the eye becomes extremely sensitive to light. The person can suffer from excruciating pain and blurred vision. There can also be severe redness in the eye. Sometimes if the condition is not treated on time it can lead to permanent loss of sight.
