Genital herpes causes different symptoms in different people. It can be quite confusing in the beginning stages and is difficult to identify. Genital herpes is a contagious disease; it develops between two and twenty days of contact. It lasts for about 2 weeks and sometimes, it is so mild that it never gets diagnosed. In some people, it is very severe, while in others, it is very mild.
People who have lower levels of immunity have greater chances of infection. Sometimes herpes may cause visible sores and these look very identical to the cold sores. This can last from 10 to 21 days. People who have never been exposed to herpes may get a severe episode of it for the first time.
When the herpes virus enters the skin, it starts reproducing itself and makes the skin red and sensitive. In the case of genital herpes blisters start appearing in the genital area. These rashes are painful and itchy and they can also burn. Some of the other symptoms of herpes include swollen lymph glands, blisters, headaches, and fever and muscle pains. Some people with genital herpes also have a vaginal or a penis discharge. It can burn while urination as the urethra will be infected. There can be a burning sensation in the genitals. Some people develop a severe back pain. In some cases itchy red rashes appear on the genital area. Later they crust over and form a scab, and then heal on their own. One should not scratch the blisters at this time.
