Chelation And Hepatitis B

Chelation is the scientific method of binding molecules of minerals or metals (usually heavy metals) with a chemical substance, which hold them properly to help in removal from the human body. This process is carried out get rid of  excessive toxic minerals or metals from the body before they start doing any harm to it. Earlier, this process was helpful in treating cases of lead poisoning.

The commonest type of the chemical substance used for carrying out chelation is an artificial amino acid named ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid or EDTA. EDTA removes minerals and heavy metals like iron, lead, calcium and copper from the body. The Food and Drug Administration, or FDA, of the United States has approved the use of this substance for treating poisoning by heavy metals.

This principle of chelation forms the basis of the common chelation therapy, which is commonly used for treatment of many diseases like atherosclerosis and thalassemia. However, recent research has established a strong link between administration of the chelation therapy and transmission of the Hepatitis B virus in patients who receive this therapy. Hepatitis B is the condition where the liver of the human body is inflamed because of the attack of hepatitis B virus. This disease may prove fatal if discovered at a very later stage (possible because of lack of symptoms during its initial stage) or if neglected for a long time.

In a research, both the laboratory and the epidemiologic data supported the fact that hepatitis B can easily get transmitted during the clinical practice of chelation. This can possibly be attributed to highly infectious nature of the Hep B e antigen. In this case, the Hep B e antigen was transmitted from an infected doctor to the patients undergoing chelation therapy at the clinic. Several interventions made recently have helped put a check on such kind of transmission.

Hepatitis-B-Symptoms      Hepatitis B is a dangerous case of liver inflammation caused by hepatitis B virus. What makes the condition dangerous is the fact that it usually cannot be detected in the body during its initial stage. This is because this infection seldom shows any signs or symptoms. When it does, they are either very mild in nature, causing no concern to the victim or most being similar to those of flu, the victim confuses it with that disease and reacts accordingly. Thus, by the time the real infection is discovered in the body, it becomes quite late to do most of the treatments to cure it. More..
