Hepatitis B and C are two types of liver inflammation. There are some similarities as well as dissimilarities between the two, in terms of its causes, incubation period, symptoms, results, etc. Both are dangerous in their own ways and can cause severe damage, not only to the liver but to the other parts of the body if left untreated for long time.
Now, hepatitis B is caused by the hepatitis B virus while the C type is caused by HCV, or the hepatitis C virus. Both the types of viruses get transmitted by direct blood contact of any kind and also by having unprotected sex with an already infected person. However, hepatitis B shows mild symptoms like nausea, vomiting, slight fever, weakness or fatigue, body ache, dark colored urine and appetite loss. But, hepatitis C does not show any symptoms during its initial stage making it more dangerous.
Now the question arises that whether these two diseases can co-exist in a single human body or not. Unfortunately, the answer is positive. Even though the means of transmission and the some of the causes are same with both the types of hepatitis, still they are distinctly different in other aspects. These two types of viruses have different ways of living and multiplying inside a human body, which do not clash with each other. This makes them co-exist peacefully, causing the body double harm.
To prevent such an occurrence, the babies should be at least ensured hepatitis B vaccination immediately after birth (vaccination for hepatitis C is yet to be developed). Also, engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse with multiple partners should also be avoided.
