Vaccines are a kind of medication taken orally or intravenously, in prescribed dose to prevent a particular type of disease ever occurring in the lifespan of the person taking it. However, it is seen in many types of vaccines that though they successfully prevent the disease intended for, they produce some kinds of side effects, minor or major in nature. Vaccine of hepatitis A infection is one of them. However, since none of these side effects are worse than the disease itself, it is still safe to take the vaccine.
One of the side effects includes the person experiencing soreness at the place of the vaccine. This happens to around half of the vaccinated adults and one sixth of children. One sixth of the adults and one in 25 children taking vaccines for hepatitis A also experience headache. Of every 12 children vaccinated for hepatitis A loses their appetite while one in every 14 adults feel weak and tired soon after taking the vaccine.
These are very mild effects of HAV, the hepatitis A vaccine, but in extremely rare case, severe allergic reactions are experienced by the person. These allergies may last a couple of minutes or a couple of hours after the vaccination. But, as some side effects can really be fatal, they cannot be ignored at any cost. Therefore, however mild or severe the case may be, if one feels any of the above mentioned symptoms or happens to be near a person who is showing some of these signs, the nearest doctor should be contacted immediately.
