Hepatitis is a deadly infection concerning the human liver which gets inflamed due to attack of certain hepatitis viruses. There are five types of this infection, namely hepatitis A, B, C, D and E. Basically, all of them are contagious, and some of them like the B-type can spread even by touching an infected person.
Hepatitis is caused primarily due to abuse of alcohol. Due to this, the liver gets scarred severely; a condition termed liver cirrhosis which results in hepatitis disease in most cases. Now, if a healthy person gets in close proximity to an infected one, these lethal viruses can spread to the new body. Viruses of hepatitis can also spread if the normal person is sharing food from the same plate or water from the same glass with the infected person. Also, having sex with a hepatitis patient can make the healthy partner susceptible to the disease, especially if they have unprotected sex. At that time, the hepatitis virus gets transmitted through the semen of the vaginal fluids.
Apart from these ways, viruses responsible for hepatitis get transmitted by direct blood contact. For instance, if a healthy human being uses the razor blade of an infected person or gets injected from a non-sterilized syringe, previously used on a hepatitis patient, the disease can spread.
Since some hepatitis viruses pass through the stool and urine of human beings, being near to a sewage area or eating or drinking near it can make one vulnerable to the disease. Since hepatitis is a fast growing global menace, with over 30 percent of the world population believed to be infected with it, it is necessary to get a regular check up done.
