There are several types of genetic disorders, and each disorder has its own symptoms.
Even today, scientists have not been able to find a cure for genetic disorders as they do not know what causes them.Alzheimer's disease, bipolar disorder and autism are some of the most common genetic disorders that we can see around us today.
As per the Centers for Disease Control, around 5 million Americans are afflicted by Alzheimer's disease. Usually the disease begins to manifest itself when a person reaches 60. At present, doctors do not know the cause of the disease, but they believe that it is connected to family history as well as aging. Some of the early symptoms of Alzheimer's disease include loss of judgment, asking repeatedly the same questions, having problems finding words to express oneself, and resisting any kind of change.
Bipolar disorder is hereditary disorder that plagues a person for his entire life. According to scientists, the disorder is caused due to imbalance in chemicals in the brain. Some of the symptoms include episodes of being in a happy and elated mood, talking very fast and taking risks; followed by episodes of being morose and sad, losing energy and being anxious and worried.
Autism, though is a genetic disorder, can also be caused due to certain environmental factors. This basically a development disorder and many disorders like Asperger syndrome and Rett syndrome fall under it. The symptoms of Autism include problems with social skills, having difficulty in communication and having no interest whatsoever in activities. Children suffering from autism are also known to indulge in repetitive motions like constant rocking.
