Dengue Fever Vaccination

If you are looking for dengue fever vaccination, you will be disappointed to learn that there is no vaccine available at the moment.

However, there are clinical trials going on to check out the efficacy of a new vaccine that has been developed by Sanofi Pasteur. The clinical trials are in the late human study phase. If the study shows that the vaccine is safe and effective, then soon there will be a dengue fever vaccination available.Sanofi Pasteur is a division of the renowned pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis. The division is undertaking dengue fever vaccine trials in Latin America, specifically in Mexico, Columbia, Honduras and Puerto Rico. The vaccine is presently being test on children, adolescents and adults. In addition, more clinical studies are being conducted in the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand.

In the Phase I and II of the clinical trials, the new vaccine was tested on adults and children in the US, Mexico and the Philippines. In these trials, it was seen that the immune system responded well against 4 serotypes after the test subjects were given 3 doses of the vaccine. The initial trials have suggested that the vaccine is safe and most people will be able to tolerate it without any serious side effects.

If the human trials are successful and the vaccine is launched into the market, it will be the first dengue fever vaccine that would be available to the people. Many healthcare professionals from countries where dengue is endemic are eagerly waiting for this vaccine as it will be able to prevent dengue infections.
