Degenerative Bone Diseases

Another name of degenerative bone disease is degenerative osteoarthritis. This is a very common disease.

A huge figure of more than 20 million people in the US is prone to this degenerative bone disorder. Inflammation and loss of the cartilage of the joints constitute the root cause of degenerative osteoarthritis. Organs which are affected by the disease are hands, spine, feet, knees and hips.Under normal circumstance, the cartilage moves smoothly over the bone and prevents it from shock. The breakdown of cartilage results in pain and swelling. The joints cannot be moved properly. Performing any task, using the limbs, becomes tough.

Another type of degenerative bone disease is osteoporosis. In osteoporosis, the bone tends to become fragile and porous, and as a result it prone to fractures and breaks. The hip, wrist and the spinal areas are generally affected by this disorder. Making the bone stronger can be the best way to reduce its possibility. This can be done by consuming a balanced diet with calcium and doing continuous exercise. However, women after 30 are most prone to osteoporosis.  After menopause, estrogen is not produced by the ovaries.  Estrogen is responsible for preventing bone loss.

Most of the disorders depend upon the age. After 45 years of age, problems in bone are quite common in people. Therefore, they are most at risk of developing bone degenerative diseases. Women are more likely to have the disease. Thus, sex also determines the chances of occurrence of disease.

Hereditary factors also cause the disease. Bone injuries or fractures can occur in bone. Accidents can be one of the factors. Also, due to the Vitamin D deficiency, the disorder can take place.
