One of the first signs of breast cancer is a lump in one of the breasts or under the arm.

Usually doctors say that if the lump seems to be hard and has irregular edges, it is highly likely that it is breast cancer. However, this is not a sure sign of breast cancer as there are some cancers of the breast that are soft and have smooth edges.So, if you have any one of the following symptoms, you should immediately consult a doctor.

• Discharge coming out of the nipple
• Inverted nipple
• Wounds or skin scaling on the nipple or breast
• Swelling or redness around the nipple or breast
• The skin on the breast becoming dimpled and takes on an appearance of an orange peel
• Any change in the shape of the breast

Usually in the initial stages, a woman will not suffer from any symptoms of breast cancer. However, as the disease progresses, the woman will notice some of the following signs of breast cancer:

• Swelling of the nodes in the armpit
• Breast becoming tender and painful
• An usual lump in the breast
• An area of the breast gets flatten and indented, and this is noticeable
• Change in the texture, temperature and shape of the breast
• The skin on the breast starts resembling an orange peel
• Blood, clear or some form of discharge from the nipple
• An alteration in nipple like it is inverted, dimpled, ulcerated or itches and burns
