Cancer is a disease that is afflicting all countries, developed and developing countries.
In 2007, there were reports of 7.9 million people dying of the disease, and by 2030, it is estimated that around 11.5 million will die all over the world from different types of cancer. In most developed countries, cancer is the second biggest cause of death, with heart disease being the first. The WHO claims that nearly of the 40 percent of the cases of cancer can be prevented if people avoid use of tobacco, carcinogens and alcohol, and become physically active by doing exercise on a regular basis.
Out of all the cancers prevalent in the world, lung cancer is the cause of majority of patients dying across the world who suffer from this type of cancer. In this case, the main causal factor is considered to be tobacco according to the WHO.
In China, it is estimated that around 2 million people die each year due to cancer. In the UK, the death toll each year due to cancer is around 230,000, while in the US, around 565,000 people die each year from cancer.
These statistics of death are alarming for everyone as they give an indication of the number of people in the world who have cancer. Second hand cigarette smoke is also a cause of death in some countries like the US, where each year 3,000 people die. Also, radon, which is an invisible gas, contributes to around 21,000 deaths from lung cancer every year in the US.
The sheer number of deaths is a good indication of the hundreds of thousands of people who have cancer around the world. And, steps should be taken to prevent the onset of this dreaded disease by one and all.
