However, at that point he was young and foolish. He just ignored the doctors and their advice, and as a result the cancer metastasized to his lungs, abdomen and several other parts of the body. It was then that Lance realized the gravity of the matter and started actively being treated for the disease.
Armstrong had two surgical procedures where the doctors removed cancerous tumors from his testicle and brain. In addition, he had to have several rounds of chemotherapy. In the first round of chemotherapy, he was given a cocktail of Bleomycin, Etoposide and Platinol. In the second round, was given different drugs to tackle the cancer. He had to have three rounds of chemotherapy this time with Ifostamide, Etoposide and Platinol.
At the time that Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer, doctors had given him just 2 percent chance of survival. However, with proper treatment and determination, Lance Armstrong overcame the deadly disease. He managed to beat the different cancers he suffered from and went on to compete in the rigorous Tour de France, where he won the title a record 6 times.
Today, Lance Armstrong is actively involved in bringing awareness of the disease, and is an active spokesperson for the disease and its treatment.
