Cancer Statistics And Graphs

If you are looking for cancer statistics, you should know that any figure you get will always be an estimation of the number of cases.

Usually the statistics are prepared taking information from many different sources. Unfortunately the US does not have a national registry for cancer, and therefore, we do not know how many cases are diagnosed in reality each year. However, the American Cancer Society still publishes cancer statistics each year, which are estimates that are based on local cancer registries and then computed to fit the entire country.

However, some states in the US have made the registration of cancer mandatory. A good example would be California where it is mandatory to report cancer diagnosis from 1985. From the cancer statistics and graphs on the incidence of cancer in California, it has been found that Marin County reports the highest cases of breast cancer, while Fresno County has the lowest.

However, when it comes to cancer statistics and graphs, a person should be careful how the results are interpreted. For instance, today, statistics show an increased number of cases of breast cancer. Rather than reading a deeper meaning into this, one should realize that mammography is being used more frequently and that is why more cases are being diagnosed.

Of all the cancers present, prostrate cancer is more often diagnosed in men, while breast cancer is most often diagnosed among women. The cancer that causes maximum number of deaths among men is lung cancer, while majority of women diet due to ovarian cancer.
