Dementia is one brain degenerative disease that no person wants to get. This disease is usually seen in seniors. AIDS dementia, although an infectious disease of the brain, is a degenerative disease. Therefore, it can be categorized under brain degenerative diseases. Here the person is afflicted by AIDS, and also dementia. When a person has AIDS dementia, he or she has problems with speech, displays changes in behavior, has problems with motor skills, inability to concentrate and think, trouble remembering things.

Other brain degenerative diseases include amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, spinal muscular atrophy, Lewy body diseases, multiple sclerosis, Friedreich's ataxia and Huntington's disease. Some of the diseases are life threatening, while others are not. However, most of the degenerative brain diseases do not have a cure, and the maximum that a doctor can do is alleviate the symptoms, manage pain and help the person regain certain amount of mobility.
