Every medication is known to have some or the other side effects, thus the asthma medications may too result in certain specific side effects depending on their composition as well as usage. Some of the oral steroids such as Prednisone include similar side effects that are caused by the inhaled corticosteroids. Medications like Montelukast are likely to cause skin rashes, headache, liver abnormalities and stomach upsetting. Nedocromil and Cromolyn which are taken as alternative treatments for asthma patients include side effects such as cough, sore throat, itching, bad taste, sneezing, stuffy nose and headache.

Thus it can be concluded that as every medications include certain risks, it is important to consult the physician before actually trying out any of them. Your physician is the best person to help you regarding such issues. In most cases, the side effects are minor and can be prevented but in case any of them causes severe side effects, the physician must be consulted as soon as possible.
