The World AIDS Day is celebrated on December 1st of every year. The main reason is to increase awareness among people about the dangers o0f AIDS and also how to protect themselves. The World AIDS Day was started by James W Bunn and Thomas Netter. They were two public officers who worked for the Global Program for AIDS with the World Health Organization.
The first World Aids day was observed on December 1st of 1988. Ever since, it is being celebrated the same day of every year. As the AIDS disease spread more and more people became aware of the HIV virus and also the awareness of it increased. They started getting more knowledge about AIDS through the World Aids Day and now it is one of the most known days of the year.
The United Nations also started a program for AIDS called the UNAIDS and now the World Aids day is a part of the program. Through out the year the program runs campaign in countries where AIDS is far more prevalent like Africa, China, and India. Also, the program benefited the society in general by increasing the knowledge and removing the stigma associated with it in people. In the beginning, the World AIDS Day focused more on women and children, as women and children were the innocent victims in most cases. However, after knowing the inherent dangers, today men are also equally aware of the possible dangers of AIDS and how easily a person can get affected by the disease.
