AIDS causes deficiency in the immune system and slowly kills it. The immune system in the infested person gets very weak as time passes by. The person becomes more susceptible to infections and diseases. Because of the lack of a properly functioning immune system the person can get various illnesses. Eventually the body becomes so weak that the person dies.

HIV was a major concern worldwide because millions of people were dying from the disease. However, after the increased awareness due to various programs conducted by the United Nations and the World Health Organization the awareness has increased and people are more careful in their choices of sex. Even having protected sex does not guarantee that the person will not get infected. However, if prostitution is banned, then AIDS can be controlled to a large extent. AIDS is very rarely caused due to blood transfusion or negligence of the medical staff. The number one cause is sex. These days screening for AIDS has become mandatory in several fields.
