AIDS means Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. AIDS is a disease that is caused by a virus called HIV which stands for Human Immunodeficiency virus. This virus causes AIDS in humans. How does one get AIDS? One of the primary causes for the spread of AIDS is having unprotected sex and also having sexual relationship with multiple partners. This has become one of the biggest reasons for the spread of AIDS in all countries.
Some of the countries that have high incidents of AIDS are Africa, India, China, Pakistan and United States. More and more people, children and women are getting diagnosed with AIDS. However, since 2007 the number of cases of AIDS is significantly coming down. Until then, AIDS was the single biggest killer disease.
The World AIDS day is celebrated on December 1 of every year. This program was created by the United Nations and the World Health Organization to increase the awareness to AIDS all over the world. When AIDS was getting more common and was popularized as the number one killer disease, there was a lot of stigma attached to it. People thought that AIDS would spread when people touched each other. Also, people diagnosed with AIDS were not treated properly even by the medical facilities ad doctors. After the increased awareness that AIDS does not spread through skin contact or touching the infected person, now people with this disease are treated with more dignity. Kids and women suffered the most when they got infected with AIDS they are mostly the innocent victims.
