Fast foods, shakes and sodas are the mainstay of many people. Initially, in the latter half of the 1800s, milkshakes and sodas were advertised as health drinks to entice more people to purchase them. The shakes and sodas were given to sick and infirm people in the form of tonics.
However, today, there is sufficient literature available about fast food, shakes, sodas nutrition. These foods and drinks have no nutrition value whatsoever. Instead they are rich in unhealthy sugars and calories that can lead to several health problems if consumed regularly.
Where fast foods are concerned, it is a normal practice for the fast food outlets to super size the items in their menus. Clientele feel that they are getting more value for their money by paying a little bit extra. Little do the people realize that though they are saving money by ordering super sized items, they are also causing a lot of damage to their health. An average small sized cola contains around 150 calories, whereas a super size cola contains a whopping 410 calories.
Shakes also pack a lot of calories. They contain added sugar and saturated fats that make them extremely unhealthy. A 32 oz shake from McDonald's contains a whopping 1,330 calories, 26 gm of fat and around 410 mg sodium. This one shake contains nearly a full day's calorie!
Sodas are consumed by most people in place of water. Even in schools it is common to have a vending machine dispensing sodas. However, the sugar level in the soda is extremely high. A single soda contains an equivalent of 9 tablespoons of sugar and 140 calories.
People who regularly consume fast foods, shakes and sodas are risking obesity due to the high calorie content in these items. There is sufficient scientific evidence to show that by consuming one soda everyday, a person has a 27 percent risk of turning obese, and most people often drink more than one soda in a day. In addition, the sugar content in the shakes and sodas can lead to diabetes in the long run.
