Protein diet was very popular because of the weight loss progress that several people seem to have had after being on the diet.

These types of foods when had in combination promote weight loss to a great extent. The secret is to completely eliminate carbohydrates from the diet. There are also some readymade diet supplements like milk shakes that are sold as high protein shakes, which can also be incorporate as part of the protein diet.
