Athletes are people who take part in sports. More than anyone, it is a must that an athlete maintains the right kind of body needed for the sport, and also be fit.
Most athletes go through strenuous exercise routines on a daily basis. Their diet should support their body, and also provide the strength to withstand all the excessive training. A healthy diet for athletes is a must against all odds. However, what the diet should be depends on the individual needs of the body and also the vital statistics of the athlete. They should clearly avoid fat in their diet as they cannot afford to put on weight. There are several things that have to be included in the diet so that they get all around nutrition.
Proteins are vital for athletes and there is no doubt about it. However, one should not overdo it and have only proteins. The daily meals of an athlete should contain about 10 percent to 20 percent of protein. It could be one piece of chicken breast or lean red meat for example for either lunch or dinner.
Carbohydrates also should be an essential part of the daily diet. So, in the daily diet, an athlete should consume at least 40 percent to 50 percent of carbohydrates. It can be wheat based or rice based. Rice is easily digested. So, often wheat is preferred like whole grain bread for example.
Athletes need fat but not excess of it. One should eat nuts and fish to get unsaturated fats. Also, vitamins and minerals should be a part of the diet plan, and this means eating fresh fruits and vegetables, especially green leafy vegetables.
