Genital warts are also known as venereal warts, anal warts or ano-gential warts. It is a highly contagious sexually transmitted condition. It is passed by direct skin-to-skin contact through genital, oral or anal sex with an infected partner. HPV or human papillomavirus infection is most easily diagnosed by the presence of genital warts.
Less than 1 percent of infected individuals develop genital warts, but they are still capable of transmitting the virus. HPV can infect a person but remain dormant for several years.
